Welcome back to William Brookes School. We have had a very eventful and successful 2008 and are looking forward to many exciting activities and achievements in 2009. Students have returned full of enthusiasm and we are all feeling very positive about this year, especially now that the new building plans have been approved and we are able to see things take shape as we move towards the spring.
During our first week back, Philip Dunne MP visited us to see the ground breaking progress being made on the site for the new school.
After discussing the construction work with Mrs Cooper, two Student Ambassadors and the Site Manager, Mr Dunne said "I was very impressed by the knowledge and involvement of the children at the school in this exciting rebuilding of William Brookes School and the Community Sports and Arts facilities. Shropshire County Council is to be congratulated for cracking on with this development so soon after planning permission was granted before Christmas.
The contractors have a very tight schedule to complete construction in time for opening at the start of the September 2010 and with this good start are on track to do so. I was delighted to learn that at its peak there will be 180 jobs for sub-contractors many of whom will be from the local area. This is good news for the school catchment area of Broseley and Much Wenlock, for the Shropshire economy and for local jobs.”
William Brookes School is fortunate to be in such a beautiful location, but we are subject to the same laws of nature as everywhere else. Snow can be as much a problem for us as for any other school and if there is any possibility of school closure during bad weather we would remind you to listen to Radio Shropshire on 95 / 96 FM for news. Please do not phone the school and block the lines – we need them to keep contact with bus companies, emergency services, etc!
Happy New Year.
