At William Brookes Sixth Form we have over 20 subjects on offer.
You may have already made your mind up about the subjects you wish to study or you may be looking for something new. Take care and time to make the right choices. All of these courses are interesting but demanding and you need to have a real desire to study them as well as having the ability to study them at Advanced Level. Do not just read this information; talk to people! Consult everyone who can advise you: Friends, students, parents, teachers, careers staff, employers and universities. Find out all you can and then make your own, informed, choices.
Being a Sixth Form student is very different from the school life you have been used to.
Advanced Level study is much harder – it demands a much greater sense of responsibility for the workload, a greater intellectual and academic awareness and above all, it requires consistent and considerable hard work. We believe that the next two years are an important stage in education when students need to develop the skills of self-management, self-discipline, independence and responsibility in order to progress successfully into the world of work or Higher Education.
As a student in the Sixth Form at William Brookes, you can expect to be taught in smaller groups.
You will receive individual guidance from your staff and tutors and a structured programme of study that recognises your needs and sets you appropriate targets. You should find your course of study challenging, but enjoyable. It is designed to prepare you for university or employment and provides you with key skills which will be so vital for your future.
The Sixth Form at William Brookes offers you purpose built accommodation, separate from the rest of the school, with a common room and study facilities. There is open access to the Library as well as a study area for Sixth Form students only.
However, there is more to Sixth Form life than academic study.
There will be opportunities to develop your skills, confidence and independence through meeting new people, engaging in new opportunities and leading by example. The Sixth Form Council plays an active part in the running of the Sixth Form as well as providing out of school entertainment.
