Students New to the Sixth Form
The Sixth Form is relatively small in comparison to the rest of the school. This is good, as it will make it easier for you to settle in and make new friends.
It also keeps the class sizes smaller which enables you to have more teacher time. A common room is provided for sixth formers; there is a head of sixth form and a
very helpful set of sixth form tutors who will be happy to help with any problem or concern you have.
In fact, people will be keen to welcome you. Many of the sixth formers have already been with each other for five or more years, so they are no doubt fairly bored
with each others' company and keen to interact with new students. What you also have to remember is that all students are new to the sixth form, which has different
arrangements and relationships with staff - so it is a new experience for all of you.
The only adjustment you should find is that of new (but fairly old) school buildings. There are many members of staff and fellow students who will help you find
your way around.
Sixth form students should not forget to sign out if they go into town for lunch (e.g. in case of a fire).
We have asked students new to the Sixth Form about how they felt when they came to the school:
"I was really scared to come here at first because I was the only person to come from my school: however, everyone was really nice and made me feel welcome. I
felt like I'd chosen the right place. The class sizes aren't very big and everyone in the classes wants to work - which is great. I enjoy coming everyday and I
leave at the end of the day with a smile on my face."
"Two months ago, I walked into the Sixth Form common room, sat down in the corner and I was immediately crowded by friendly people, welcoming me. After those
first few minutes we have been friends ever since. The Sixth Form Common room is a colourful, happy and friendly place. There is always something going on! I've
only been here for half a term but already I am so at home, that it feels like I've been here all along."
